Greenville Lineage Shines in Death Valley

CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers make a conscious effort to recruit from Greenville High School just down the road, and the coaching staff is reaping the rewards for that decision.

Freshman wide receiver Tyler Brown is the obvious one, and his impact on the team is endless in 2023. He made an absurd one-handed touchdown catch against Georgia Tech, but he wasn’t the only former Red Raider to put their stamp on the game.

Tight end Josh Sapp got increased reps Saturday with Sage Ennis coming out for the second half in street clothes. He took advantage of the opportunity and made two catches for 17 yards, including a touchdown. That was his second score of the year, and he’s knocking for more playing time moving forward.

No one was more excited postgame for Sapp than Brown, as the two went to Greenville together. When Sapp scored, he bolted to join the celebration with his longtime teammate.

“I hope they got the video of me sprinting towards 5, man. He tried to celebrate, I just sprinted on ’em and jumped on him. I hope they got that video. I need that video but I just love to see it man. My guy from high school, I love to see it, man,” Brown said.

For all the criticism of Clemson in 2023, the recruitment and development Dabo Swinney and his staff have done has paid dividends. Greenville is the perfect example, and Sapp’s evolution is crucial moving forward.
