Clemson has secured running back commitments for the 2024 and 2025 classes in four-stars David Eziomume and Gideon Davidson, respectively.
One name to keep an eye on in the 2026 cycle, as it relates to the Tigers’ running back recruiting, is Shahn Alston (pictured above, center).
The sophomore from Harvey High School (Painesville, Ohio) made an unofficial visit to campus this past Saturday for the Georgia Tech game. It marked his first trip to Tiger Town.
“It was a great experience! It was definitely a crazy environment!” Alston told The Clemson Insider. “The highlight of my visit was seeing the players touch Howard’s Rock and run down the hill. I’ve always seen it on TV but it’s a different feeling witnessing it in person.”
Alston added that the atmosphere in Death Valley during the Tigers’ 42-21 victory was “unmatched.”
“The vibe I got with fans and the staff was great. It was definitely loud,” he said. “Clemson creating big plays only made the atmosphere that much louder.”
The staff members Alston spent the most time with during the visit were running backs coach C.J. Spiller and senior offensive assistant Andrew Zow.
“We talked about numerous things, whether it was the NFL, things Clemson can provide, some players on the team, and also about my highlight tape,” Alston said.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder believes Clemson has genuine interest in him at this early stage of the recruiting process.
“I feel that their interest is real!” he said. “I wouldn’t think they would invite a kid like me (from Ohio) to come down if it wasn’t. Like I said before, I also had a great conversation with some of the RB coaches.”
Alston picked up his first power conference offer from West Virginia back in June to go with other offers from Ball State, Toledo, Miami (Ohio) and Akron. Along with Clemson, he’s feeling a lot of interest from schools such as Ohio State and Notre Dame.
Receiving an offer from Dabo Swinney and the Tigers in the future, Alston said, “would be truly a blessing.”
“An opportunity to play at a school with Clemson’s history and under Coach Swinney would truly be special,” he said. “It’s also proven they send a lot of guys to the league, as well as setting players up with job opportunities outside of football.”
Alston had an impressive sophomore season this year, rushing for 1,041 yards on 128 carries (8.1 yards per carry) with 17 touchdowns.
