During ESPN’s College GameDay, the analysts discussed different College Football Playoff chaos scenarios and what they would do if they were sitting in the committee room and that particular scenario happened. And Kirk Herbstreit didn’t give any love to the ACC/Florida State in a couple of scenarios.
The first scenario they discussed is an undefeated Big Ten champion, an undefeated ACC Champion in Florida State and an undefeated Pac-12 champion in Washington, with one playoff spot remaining for either a Big 12 champion Texas, an SEC champion Alabama (one loss, lost to Texas) or Georgia (one loss, to Alabama, in that scenario).
Herbstreit was asked who he thinks would get the final playoff spot in that scenario. He said the undefeated Big Ten champ would get in and Washington would get in, but Florida State getting in, in that scenario, is “debatable” and “that’s the controversy.”
Herbstreit said he thinks Texas would get in because of its win over Alabama, and that the debate for the final playoff spot would come down to Alabama and an undefeated Florida State.
In that scenario, Herbstreit thinks Texas would be a lock but said of Florida State, “They’re not a lock to me,” and he would put Bama in over the Seminoles, saying “no way the SEC champ is left out.”
In another scenario they discussed, Herbstreit said he would put an undefeated Big Ten champ, a Big 12 champ Texas, an SEC champ Alabama and a Pac-12 champ Oregon in over Florida State.
