CLEMSON — Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik spoke to the media following the Tigers’ 31-20 win over No. 22 North Carolina Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Here is what we heard from Klubnik after the game.
–It was Senior Day in Death Valley, and the Tigers had been feeling bittersweet about the loss of some special teammates. Klubnik was asked about their commemoration and the feelings associated with it being the last home game of the season. The quarterback elaborated on his focus surrounding the seniors. “That was my biggest goal. Obviously, we had a really good opponent, but I told Hunter my number one goal in this game was to get him in.”
–After Tar Heels’ running back Omarion Hampton had rushed 64 yards, it appeared North Carolina put up another touchdown on the board. Cornerback Nate Wiggins had something to say about this and forced a fumble for a touchback at the one-yard-line. The junior showed initiative and drive, and his teammates showed astonishment. One of these teammates was Klubnik, who commented, “That play Nate had was one of the best play’s I’ve seen in my life. It might be for the rest of my life the best play I’ve ever seen without a doubt – I mean it’s unreal.”
Expectations for this years’ Clemson team were high as always, just like the stakes. Coming off of another win against North Carolina, Clemson is finally fulfilling the potential they’ve held all season. “We’re playing like what I thought we were going to be playing like all year. These last three games I think we’ve just played like who we are and really gotten to show it.”
–Klubnik was very prideful about the faith his team held through such an unpredictable season. “There’s a lot of guys that could have quit or eased off after being 4-4. To hopefully finish like we’re going to finish and to do what we’ve done these last three games, I’m just really proud of them.”
