Former Tiger on Clemson’s Resilience, Staying Connected

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Donning his number from his Clemson days, former Tiger Jayron Kearse helped the Dallas Cowboys secure a 33-10 win just a few hours from his college campus.

Kearse has worn No. 27 for Dallas since he revived his career there, and he made the switch back to No. 1 with the new number rules. The Clemson Insider caught up with Kearse postgame, and he detailed what it’s like to bring ‘Clemson Kearse’ back.

“It’s good. I’m happy to be back in my number. Fly around with my guys and just have fun, win some games,” Kearse said.

While it’s been from afar, Kearse has kept a keen eye on the Tigers season. He’s seen the ups and downs, but knows what head coach Dabo Swinney and the staff preach every week.

Back during his three-year Clemson career, he totaled over 150 tackles, 18 pass breakups and seven interceptions. Kearse knows a thing or two about what it takes to win, and he was well aware that the Tigers would rally back.

“Just fight. You know, that’s what they preach. Just always fight, you know to see how the season started and then to now, going and beating Notre Dame there was a ranked opponent and then going and beating UNC last night, a ranked opponent, that was great,” Kearse said.

The Clemson program is something that Kearse holds dearly, and he said he continues to stay connected with the program. No better example of this than his relationship with cornerbacks coach Mike Reed. The two exchange calls and Kearse says “those type of things” are what keep him rooted in Tiger Town.

Kearse is one of many former Tigers becoming household names at the next level. He’s one of the anchors in a Cowboys defense that’s helped Dallas reach a 7-3 record, but he continues to rep the Paw.
