More bad news for the Duke Blue Devils’ football program came Wednesday.
Duke of course has already lost its head coach, Mike Elko, to Texas A&M. Now, the Blue Devils are taking a major hit at the quarterback position by way of the NCAA transfer portal.
Star signal-caller Riley Leonard has entered the portal, he announced on Instagram.
In three seasons at Duke from 2021-23, Leonard completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 4,450 yards and 24 touchdowns with 10 interceptions while also rushing for 1,224 yards and 19 more scores on the ground.
The Fairhope, Ala., native threw for 1,102 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions during an injury-plagued junior campaign this year. He also ran for 352 yards and four touchdowns.
In the season opener against Clemson on Sept. 4, Leonard completed 17-of-33 passes for 175 yards and rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
