N.C. OL: Death Valley Atmosphere ‘By Far the Best I’ve Experienced’

This offensive line prospect from the Tar Heel State traveled to Clemson for its final home game of the season, and he certainly wasn’t disappointed by the experience or atmosphere in Death Valley.

Green Hope High School (Cary, N.C.) 2025 OL Ian Hemilright came away very impressed after his unofficial visit to Tiger Town for the North Carolina game on Nov. 18.

“I really enjoyed the visit, and there were many highlights including the conversation with OL coach (Thomas) Austin, the facility tour and the amazing gameday atmosphere,” Hemilright said. “The Death Valley atmosphere is by far the best I’ve experienced at any school I’ve been to so far.”

According to Hemilright, Austin told Hemilright that he “really liked” the 6-foot-3, 280-pound junior’s game film.

Along with Austin, Hemilright had the chance to spend time with former Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell, who is now the Tigers’ director of high school relations and sophomore transition.

“I spent the most time with (Caldwell) and then I had a little time with (Austin) in the indoor practice field,” Hemilright said. “Coach Austin told me I had a great season and I play like a ‘dirtbag,’ the way I get after whoever I’m blocking.”

Hemilright was accompanied on the visit by his mother.

“She enjoyed the visit just as much as I did,” he said.

It marked the second visit to Clemson for Hemilright, who also attended the Miami game last season.

Along with Clemson, Hemilright said he’s getting interest from schools such as Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina and App State as well as multiple Ivy League schools.

The emphasis Clemson’s program places on academics and life beyond football is something that really appeals to Hemilright, who was selected as an all-conference performer this season.

“Clemson stands out because they really emphasize grades and graduating,” he said, “as well as assisting in finding careers and jobs if football does not work out, which I think is really important.”
