ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel joined College Football Live on Tuesday and provided an update on a few top quarterbacks in the transfer portal.
One of those that Thamel gave the latest on is DJ Uiagalelei, who of course re-entered the portal after playing this season at Oregon State, following his three years at Clemson.
Per Thamel, a pair of ACC schools – Florida State and Louisville – have emerged as the top suitors for Uiagalelei, while the former five-star prospect is also getting some interest from Mississippi State.
“As for DJ Uiagalelei, we could see a return to the ACC,” Thamel said. “Two schools have emerged as his top suitors are Florida State and Louisville. He has no visits set. Mississippi State has also shown some interest. But DJU could be making a cross country trip back to the Atlantic. He obviously started at Clemson, thrived last year at Oregon State, has one more year of eligibility left, and he’s one of the top quarterbacks available in this portal.”
For the Beavers this season, Uiagalelei completed 57.1 percent of his passes for 2,638 yards and 21 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He also had 219 rushing yards and six more scores on the ground.
The 6-foot-4, 252-pounder played at Clemson from 2020-22, going 22-6 as a starter. Overall in his career as a Tiger, Uiagalelei played in 36 games and completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 5,681 yards and 36 touchdowns with 17 interceptions, to go with 275 career carries for 913 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.
Sources have told ESPN that Dillon Gabriel is expected to visit Oregon soon, and the Ducks are the favorite for his services. Riley Leonard ND visit starts tomorrow. And three suitors have emerged for DJU. QB portal update from CFB Live with @kelseyriggs. pic.twitter.com/ocVJ5h0a2o
