Lawrence Gives Injury Update After Jags’ Loss

There weren’t many positives that Trevor Lawrence could take away from the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 31-27 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. However, one bright spot is that the Jaguars’ franchise quarterback came out of the game OK from an injury standpoint.

The former Clemson star was a game-time decision after suffering a right high ankle sprain in last Monday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The injury looked bad at the time, but after missing practice on Wednesday and being limited over the next couple days, Lawrence toughed it out Sunday and made the 47th straight start to begin his NFL career.

Lawrence met with the media following the loss to the Browns in Cleveland and gave an injury update when asked about his ankle after the game.

“Yeah, I felt pretty good, all things considered,” he said. “So, that was a positive out of (Sunday’s game). I guess that’s about the only one. But yeah, I didn’t reinjure my ankle and didn’t tweak it or anything. It felt pretty good. It held up. I was able to move when needed. So yeah, it was good.”

The Jaguars committed four turnovers in Sunday’s loss, including three interceptions from Lawrence, who also threw three touchdown passes and finished 28-of-50 passing for 257 yards. The 2021 No. 1 overall pick had 11 rushing yards on three carries as well.

“Just was not one of our cleaner games,” Lawrence said. “Too many mistakes – penalties, missed opportunities, missed throws, drops. Just not playing sound football. I think we were just so inconsistent, it was hard to get in a rhythm. It feels like all of the close plays, like we didn’t make, that you need to get some momentum back in games, and it seemed like all of those we just weren’t able to make today.

“So, we gotta watch this tape and really learn from it, because there’s a lot on there that we gotta clean up and get better from. Walking off the field, you felt like we missed so many opportunities and left a lot out there and really just shot ourselves in the foot over and over. … At the end, we still had a shot and gave ourselves an opportunity, but it’s just too little, too late at that point.”

Despite back-to-back losses, the Jaguars (8-5) still sit atop the AFC South, ahead of the Indianapolis Colts (7-6) and Houston Texans (7-6). The Jags return to action Sunday when they face the Baltimore Ravens (10-3) on Sunday Night Football in Jacksonville.
