One week before he makes things official with Clemson, five-star linebacker commit Sammy Brown had his in-home visit with the Tigers this week.

The Clemson Insider caught up with the Jefferson (Ga.) High School star ahead of next week’s early signing period.

On Tuesday, Brown welcomed head coach Dabo Swinney, defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Wes Goodwin and co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Mickey Conn for the aforementioned in-home visit.

“I really enjoyed just having some time to sit down with Coach Swinney and being able to pick his brain,” Brown said. “We had some time to just sit down and talk about a handful of subjects.”

Brown’s family had a great time visiting with the coaches as well.

“Along with the coaches, it was my mom, dad, brother and sister. They all really enjoyed it, mom, dad and brother mostly,” Brown said, laughing. “Sister doesn’t really care either way. But they all had their share of the conversation and really enjoyed having those coaches in our home.”

What did Brown – the nation’s No. 1 linebacker and No. 12 overall prospect, per ESPN – hear from the coaches as he gets set to enroll early at Clemson?

“They’re really excited for our class and what it can do,” he said. “We’ve still got some work that we can do on a few recruits to make it even better, so we will see where that goes. But basically they said to be ready come January when we move in!”

Brown committed to Clemson this past June, and the 6-foot-2, 230-pounder is a headliner of the Tigers’ top-15-ranked 2024 recruiting class – a group that Brown is high on and happy to be a part of.

“I love this class, we are all likeminded on our goal for Clemson and what we want to achieve,” he said. “Like I said, we are looking to add a few more pieces to the puzzle and it is very possible.”

The 2023 High School Butkus Award winner can’t wait to ink with Clemson next Wednesday, Dec. 20, when the early signing period gets underway.

“I’m chomping at the bit to get the pen to paper next week,” Brown said, “so I can get a head start on learning the defense and studying the calls!”
