Ten years ago, Clemson picked up a preferred walk-on commitment from a wide receiver who would end up putting together one of the most unlikely yet storied careers in Tiger history – Hunter Renfrow.
A former two-star prospect from Myrtle Beach, Renfrow didn’t have any Power Five offers coming out of high school, Clemson included. But of course, he decided to take a PWO spot with the Tigers over a scholarship offer from App State, and he would eventually go on to earn a scholarship at Clemson in August 2015.
Although Clemson didn’t offer Renfrow a scholarship in high school, former Tigers receivers coach Jeff Scott showed interest in him during the recruiting process.
And via social media today, Scott shared an interaction he had with Renfrow through text message today.
Scott asked Renfrow if he was going to come to Clemson over App State, regardless of whether or not Scott had shown interest.
Not only was Renfrow not going to choose App State over Clemson, but Renfrow responded to Scott and said that once the Tigers gave him a PWO offer, he was set on coming to Clemson – even if South Carolina had offered him a scholarship.
Ok…I saw Tim’s tweet below about Renfrow so I decided to text him today and ask him a question I’ve always wanted to ask…..😂😂😂 https://t.co/z4Trrzbp14 pic.twitter.com/DL4UsdkKpc

It’s safe to say things have worked out very well for Renfrow, who is now in his fifth NFL season with the Raiders following a legendary Clemson career during which he won two national titles while racking up 186 receptions for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns.
