The 2023 NFL regular season is over and multiple former Clemson Tigers made impacts as rookies during the year. While one’s presence was impact, others gradually became key pieces to their respective teams.
Six Tigers were selected in last year’s draft and here’s a full look at how the first season in the pros went for the Clemson products.
Myles Murphy: Cincinnati Bengals No. 28 overall
There were some growing pains for Murphy as it took time in training camp for him to find his bearings but the latter half of the regular season proved to be his best. Murphy carved out a spot in the Bengals front and earned praise from his coaches as he finished the season with 10 tackles and three sacks.
For a player that didn’t get his footing early, the end of the year was a positive as he tries to prove Cincinnati right for selecting him early.
Bryan Bresee: New Orleans Saints No. 29 overall
It took no time for Bresee to prove himself at this level, and he was a member of a ferocious Saints front. His size also presented extra help in the run game, where he had 4.5 stuffs on the year.
The pass rush was just as effective with 4.5 as well. There’s no doubt that he was the right selection for New Orleans and he’ll be a building block for a team that barely missed the playoffs.
Trenton Simpson: Baltimore Ravens No. 86 overall
Mainly a reserve piece for a potential Super Bowl favorite, Simpson had a large increase in reps as Baltimore closed the season by sitting their starters. He had seven tackles and a sack in the Week 18 loss, and playing behind the pair of Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith makes it hard to carve out a role
Still, that performance is crucial going forward as he looks to be the third head of a linebacker monster for the Ravens.
KJ Henry: Washington Commanders No. 137 overall
Similar to other players in this draft class for Clemson, Henry caught on late in the year, He didn’t register any stats until November and ended up being a key piece of Washington’s pass rush rotation. This came as a result of trading the starters as the Commanders cleared house, and now Henry can carve out a role for the future.
Jordan McFadden: Los Angeles Chargers No. 156 overall
McFadden spent most of the year as a reserve. Once an offensive tackle, he moved to guard for the Chargers and flourished on short notice in Week 17 vs. the Broncos.
After that performance, McFadded could be in line for a starting spot as a shuffle could approach on the front in Los Angeles.
Davis Allen: Los Angeles Rams No. 175 overall
Yet again, a player who rose with his team late. As the Rams made a late charge into the playoffs, Allen had an increased role. During a thriller in OT vs. the Ravens, he had a career-high four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Los Angeles secured its playoff spot Sunday and Allen had four catches on four targets for 25 yards. He’ll take on the Lions Jan. 14 as the Rams look to keep its hopes live.
