NFL Team Reunites with Former Clemson Standout

An NFL team has reunited with this former Clemson standout in a roster move.

The San Francisco 49ers announced this week they have signed defensive lineman Austin Bryant to their practice squad.

Bryant was with the 49ers earlier this season, playing in two games and posting one tackle prior to being released by the team on Nov. 15, 2023. He was then signed to the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad on Nov. 21 before being released from their practice squad on Jan. 15.

Originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Bryant has played in 35 games and made six starts during his NFL career with the Lions (2019-22) and 49ers (2023).

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder has recorded 66 tackles (seven for loss), 4.5 sacks and one pass defended in his pro career.

At Clemson, Bryant was part of the two-deep rotation for his entire career, completing his time as a Tiger (2015-18) with 153 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 20.0 sacks, 32 quarterback pressures, four pass breakups, two caused fumbles and an interception over 51 games (29 starts). He earned Outstanding Defensive Player honors in the CFP Semifinal at the Cotton Bowl Classic in the midst of Clemson’s undefeated 2018 campaign.
