Clemson Freshman Phenom Shares Number Change

Clemson’s shining freshman will be wearing a new number in 2024. After wearing No. 36 during his first season as a Tiger, safety Khalil Barnes will be swapping to No. 7.

Justin Mascoll was the previous owner of the number, but Barnes takes over as he also gains the reins in the defensive backfield. The Freshman All-American comes into his sophomore season as the surefire started next to RJ Mickens as well as nickel duties, where he shined. Barnes shared a look at the number change on X, formerly Twitter.

Barnes finished his freshman season with 38 tackles, five for loss and nine pass breakups. His largest impact came with turnovers, forcing three fumbles and making three interceptions. That earned him All-ACC honors across multiple publications. Those same plays will be made in 2024 with the No. 7 on his chest.
