The ACC announced its future plans for conference tournament sites, and the biggest success came in basketball.
There was some recent inconsistencies with some tournaments heading up north to Brooklyn, N.Y. and the biggest losers of those decisions were fans like those in Clemson who couldn’t travel as easy to see its team play.
Good news is that’s over as this will be the last season away from the Carolinas for the foreseeable future. This season’s tournament will take place in D.C., but it’ll be headed back to Greensboro and Charlotte as reported by the Associated Press.
The men’s basketball tournament — next held in Washington, D.C. in March — will take place in Charlotte in 2025, 2026 and 2028, while Greensboro will host it in 2027 and 2029. That five-year run in North Carolina would be the longest in the state since holding 11 straight in Charlotte and Greensboro from 1990 to 2000.
For Tigers fans, this is great news as it’s just a few hours away to go and cheer on Clemson competing for a conference title. Greensboro is the home of the ACC Tournament, and has been for decades.
While the conference might face a lot of strife, this is something it got right. The perfect scenario would be spending every year in Greensboro, but the conveniency of keeping it Charlotte as that’s the new headquarters fits the billing.
So rejoice, ACC basketball fans. Clemson won’t be far when it’s time to battle for the automatic bid, and the Tigers faithful can be loud and clear.
