Clemson ‘Definitely Checks Those Boxes’ for Elite Alabama QB

The Clemson Insider caught up with an elite young signal-caller who was in Tiger Town earlier this year.

Trent Seaborn, a blue-chip quarterback prospect in the 2027 class, visited Clemson for the first time in January.

The Thompson High School (Alabaster, Ala.) star spoke with TCI again this week and gave the latest on where things stand with the Tigers at this early stage of his recruiting process.

Seaborn had the chance to spend time with members of Dabo Swinney’s staff while on campus last month, including offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Garrett Riley.

“I haven’t been in direct contact with the coaches since my visit, but I’m sure I’ll be talking to Coach Riley again soon,” Seaborn said. “Coach Dabo came by our school a couple of weeks ago to check in on some of the guys they’ve offered at Thompson.”

Thompson is the same school that produced Clemson freshman All-American defensive lineman and former five-star prospect Peter Woods, whom Seaborn looks up to and has a good relationship with.

A 6-foot-1, 186-pound freshman, Seaborn has already compiled an impressive list of more than 15 offers featuring schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin, Maryland, Nebraska and Arizona State.

Of course, Clemson hasn’t offered any prospects in his class yet and is still quite a ways away from doing so, but he came away highly impressed after his visit experience with the Tigers on Jan. 13.

“I think what stood out to me the most on my visit was how much they value their players and treating them like a real family,” Seaborn said. “They had their end of the year banquet the day I visited, and what was cool was that they weren’t out on the road for recruiting like most other schools were at the beginning of that recruiting period. Instead, they were hosting players and their families at this event, taking time to be together as a team and family. That says a lot about priorities and culture.”

Seaborn looks forward to returning to Clemson, and that could happen as soon as this spring.

“I haven’t set a date yet but when I find out when their spring practices are, Coach Riley said to just let him know and we will make it happen,” Seaborn said. “I’m excited to get back and spend more time with him, see them practice, sit in on a meeting and talk ball.”

There’s a lot of time left in the recruiting process for Seaborn, who still has three years of high school ahead of him, but he has a good idea of what he’s looking for in a college as he goes through the process.

“The biggest thing I’m looking for is a program that’s going to develop me as a player and person and where the coaches share the same values I have – hard work, sacrifice, teamwork, we over me, commitment,” he said. “I want to be coached hard and held accountable, and be surrounded by players who feel the same way.”

Clemson, Seaborn said, “definitely checks those boxes” of what he’s looking for.

“They have a culture in place where character and integrity are so important,” he said.

Seaborn impressively completed 72 percent of his passes with 27 touchdowns and just six interceptions during his 2023 freshman season on varsity in Alabama’s 7A classification.

The 2023 MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year believes he’d be a good fit for Clemson’s offense in the future.

“Looking at their offense the past few years and the QBs they’ve had, I think it’s a system I could see myself fitting in,” he said. “They’ve got a lot of elements of air raid, which is the base of what we run at Thompson. I think I’d be very comfortable in their system.”
