Which NFL team is the perfect fit for former Clemson cornerback and projected first-round draft pick Nate Wiggins?
NFL Network analyst Chase Daniel weighed in on that following Wiggins’ remarkable 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine this past Friday.
Daniel – a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and Missouri’s all-time total yards leader, who played 14 seasons in the NFL – pointed to Wiggins being the perfect fit for the Indianapolis Colts, who own the 15th overall pick in April’s draft.
“Nate Wiggins to the Colts, in my opinion, makes all the sense in the world,” Daniel said on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access show. “They’re the 15th pick. Look, he said in pre-combine training that he ran a 4.27. Well guess what, (Friday), 4.28… He got to 24 miles an hour like we showed… In my opinion, he should be one of the top corner prospects in the entire draft.”
With his time of 4.28, the 6-foot-1, 173-pound Wiggins posted the fastest 40-yard dash among cornerbacks at the combine and the second-fastest among all players at the combine, behind only Texas receiver Xavier Worthy (4.21).
Wiggins earned first-team All-ACC honors as a junior in 2023, when he tallied 25 tackles (one for loss), a team-high nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one sack and two interceptions over 10 games (seven starts).
In his career at Clemson from 2021-23, Wiggins recorded 50 tackles (3.0 for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal over 34 games (18 starts).
“He closes windows. That’s something, as I corner, that I want to see,” Daniel said, breaking down Wiggins’ game. “He’s tall, he’s long, a ton of range, and then the speed – the game-breaking speed… He had two pick-sixes in his career. He also had a blocked field goal, so he can help on special teams… The dude can do it all.”
Wiggins suffered an injury while running the 40-yard dash, ending his day at the combine, though he expects to be good to go for Clemson’s Pro Day on March 14.
In his latest prospect rankings for the 2024 NFL Draft, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah ranked Wiggins as the No. 25 overall prospect. Jeremiah’s latest mock draft has Wiggins going to the Colts at Pick 15.
The 2024 NFL Draft is set for April 25-27 in Detroit.
