Swinney Thought Wiggins Would Be Faster at Combine

CLEMSON – In the Clemson facility, there was no doubt that former Tiger cornerback Nate Wiggins would deliver a strong NFL Scouting Combine performance.

Head coach Dabo Swinney is no exception, and he even thought it would be a faster 40-yard dash time. With Wiggins back in town after the combine, Swinney gave his two cents on the All-ACC corner’s speed.

“Not surprised. Thought he’d be faster. Must’ve been a bad surface or something,” Swinney joked.

Swinney has seen Wiggins develop all through his three years at Clemson and it’s made this type of him no surprise for the Tigers coach.

Wiggins suffered a hip flexor injury on his run, but he’s expected to be ready for Pro Day on March 14. He could eclipse that 4.28, but Swinney was focused on how this is just the beginning when talking about Wiggins.

“He’s a fast dude. Happy for him. He’s put himself in position, he’s got the tape. Check the tape, he’s made a lot of plays, gotten better every year. He’s still a work in progress. His best football is still in front of him,” Swinney said.

The term Swinney used was “in position” to take this next step with ease. Every box Wiggins needed to check to separate himself in this draft class, he has and it’s why he’s expected to be a first-round selection.

“He’s not average guy. He’s special,” Swinney said.
