CLEMSON – The running back room at Clemson is known for its physicality and not often its speed in the last couple seasons. Enter freshman David Eziomume, who has the speed to boost the unit.

Through two weeks of spring practice, Eziomume is drawing praise from his peers. Phil Mafah agreed with head coach Dabo Swinney that the two were similar on arrival in college, and detailed what he’s seen from the four-star recruit.

“He’s been doing really good honestly. He’s learning, he’s getting better, he’s transitioning from high school to college. He’s basically still a high school senior so he has to still transition but he’s been showing great things on the field and I believe he’s going to be a great one honestly if he keeps working hard , grinding each and every day and I trust him,” Mafah said.

Since arriving, Eziomume has gone to Mafah for advice, constantly trying to improve but it’s not a one-sided relationship. Mafah said the two “feed off each other” and he’s learning from the youngster as well.

It’s something the running back prides itself in and Keith Adams Jr. is another player who brings his own style to the group. He’s been most impressed by the speed Eziomume brings to the Tigers.

“David’s a great runner. I feel like as he continues to go, especially seeing him out there today, he ‘s very powerful, he’s very fast. I feel like he’s got a lot of good track speed so once nobody is in front of him, he’s going to be gone,” Adams said.

Eziomume’s place in the rotation is still yet to be seen, but his speed is something that can’t be discounted. If he continues to grow into his own, he’ll be a home-run threat for Clemson in the fall.
