ACC Network host Mark Packer recently shared some thoughts on Clemson Football heading into the 2024 season.
Of course, the Tigers (9-4, 4-4 ACC in 2023) kick off the upcoming campaign against the Georgia Bulldogs (13-1, 8-1 SEC in 2023).
Clemson is looking to earn its first win against Georgia since 2013. The last meeting between the two teams came on Sept. 4, 2021, when the Bulldogs beat the Tigers 10-3 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte to begin that season.
“Clemson opens up with probably the No. 1 team in the country, the Georgia Bulldogs,” Packer said on ACCN’s ACC PM show. “Again, we had that game a couple years ago right here in Charlotte. Was a little 10-3 thing. Nobody had any offense. Great defense. The Dawgs are going to be loaded.”
Packer sees “some interesting question marks” for Dabo Swinney’s team going into the 2024 season.
“Dabo Swinney making some little adjustments on the defensive line,” Packer said. “Peter Woods going to defensive end. That’s kind of interesting given how great he is athletically. [He can] cause some havoc with his buddy T.J. Parker on the other side. But Cade Klubnik’s gotta play well, and Clemson’s wide receivers have to return to that standard. So, a lot of question marks for the Tigers.”
Clemson’s 2024 opener against Georgia is set for Saturday, Aug. 31 in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Bulldogs missed the final year of the four-team playoff in 2023 after winning back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022. Clemson, after six straight CFP appearances and two national titles from 2015-20, is looking to return to the playoff next season in the first year of the 12-team format.
“They still should be really, really talented,” Packer said of Clemson. “But that first one against Georgia in Atlanta, bring your popcorn and your A game, because the Dawgs are going to be tough.”
