CLEMSON – Antonio Williams never wants to have this feeling again.
The Clemson wide receiver was impressive as a freshman with 56 catches for 694 yards and four touchdowns. This led into excitement for his sophomore season, one in which he spent on the sideline often, playing in just four games due to injury.
That’s something Williams never wants to happen again, and he said he’ll do everything in his power douring the offseason to make sure he’s prepared physically and mentally.
“It feels great. Last year, I definitely realized I took being healthy for granted. This came, I love it so much so every time I step on the field, I’m going to give 110 percent,” Williams said.
With Williams back in the fold, the Tigers could have something special at wide receiver. He and Tyler Brown are the slot receivers while the talent outside could be its deepest since Williams arrived.
Adam Randall, Cole Turner, Troy Stellato and Bryant Wesco Jr. just to name a few. Once the summer comes, fellow five-star TJ Moore will join the fray.
Williams described his excitement about the group and knows it’s a pick your poison battle regardless of who is on the field. That’s a key part in the offense’s development in the second year under Garrett Riley’s watch.
“In our receiver rooms, we got some dogs and it’s competitive and we got more people coming in…if you get tired, tap out and somebody else that’s hungry is going to go out there and make plays too,” Williams said.
Mix in the development of quarterback Cade Klubnik and the explosiveness Clemson has slammed the table about could finally arrive.
Williams said if you asked him about the offense’s development last year, he probably would’ve said the same thing but he “really means it” as the Tigers sharpen for 2024.
