One of the standouts for Clemson this spring has undoubtedly been Bryant Wesco, who has drawn no shortage of praise from teammates and coaches alike.
The highly touted true freshman wide receiver seems to be impressing everyone, and that includes Garrett Riley.
The Tigers’ offensive coordinator likes what he’s seen from Wesco in spring practice as he’s done well so far in acclimating himself to the college game.
“Bryant’s done a nice job,” Riley said following Wednesday’s scrimmage. “Anytime as a freshman, the whole thing is just can you handle mentally? And then just the grind, the speed of the game, transitioning at his position at receiver and once you transition to the college speed. He’s been able to mentally handle things, and I think he’s a guy that’s transitioned really well with the speed of the game.”
Wesco enrolled at Clemson in January after committing to the Tigers last June and then signing with Dabo Swinney’s program in December. He was ranked as high as the nation’s No. 7 wideout and No. 28 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class by ESPN.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder recorded 109 receptions for 1,903 yards and scored 29 touchdowns during his prep career at Midlothian (Texas) High School. He posted 36 catches for 619 yards and 13 touchdowns in just seven games as a senior after hauling in 56 passes for 1,072 yards and 12 scores as a junior.
Wesco has come in and quickly shown that he’s certainly capable of making an early impact for Clemson in his first year as a Tiger.
One of the things Riley has noticed about Wesco that stands out is “he’s a kid that the moment’s not too big for him.”
“He just kind of feels like that type of player to me,” Riley said. “So, I’ve been very pleased with his start.”
