Requesting a trade doesn’t always result in one, and that might end up the case for a former Clemson Tiger.

Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins has 257 catches for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns over four seasons in Cincinnati. With his rookie contract expiring, the Bengals placed the franchise tag on Higgins.

That didn’t stick as Higgins requested a trade in March. There hasn’t been much traction in a potential trade, and Cincinnati’s head coach discussed the situation at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting. The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway reported Zac Taylor’s thoughts on Higgins.

“We’re excited for Tee to have a great year for us. We think he’s our best chance to help us win a Super Bowl. I’ve enjoyed working with Tee the last four years, I expect this year to be no different,” Taylor said.

Last season’s 9-8 finish was a disappointing for the Bengals following playoff runs two years in a row, a result of quarterback Joe Burrow going down with an injury.

Cincinnati lost another key offensive piece in running back Joe Mixon, so keeping Higgins is a priority for its success and that trade request may never be honored. Taylor is focused on having his key receiver on the field.

“Those are their business decisions they make and we’ll continue to prepare the guys that are there and get ready for training camp. Excited to have a great year with Tee,” Taylor said.

Higgins and the Bengals have until July 15 to work out a long-term contract, but that doesn’t seem likely. He’ll either get the trade he wishes for, or be left to play out another season with the franchise.
