Clemson Run Rules USC Upstate

No. 2 Clemson dominated USC Upstate on Tuesday night at Fluor Field in Greenville, as the Tigers won on the run rule 11-1 after seven innings.

Clemson (25-3) took an early lead in the second inning. Will Taylor walked and advanced to second on Tristan Bissetta’s walk. Cooper Blauser reached on a fielder’s choice, advancing Taylor to third. Jacob Jarrell walked to load the bases. Cam Cannarella singled to score Taylor and Blauser. Alden Mathes tripled to score Jarrell and Cannarella.  Blake Wright grounded out to score Mathes. After the top of the second, Clemson led 5-0.

In the third, the Tigers added another run. Taylor was hit by a pitch, and with one out, Blauser reached on a fielder’s choice, advancing Taylor to second. Jarrell singled to score Taylor.

In the fifth, Taylor and Bissetta walked to start the inning. With one out, Jarrell doubled to right, scoring Taylor. Cannarella reached on a fielding error, scoring Bissetta, then Mathes singled to score Jarrell. Wright then singled to score Cannarella before Mathes scored on a passed ball. The Tigers led 11-0 after the top of the fifth.

USC Upstate (18-12) plated a run in the fifth.

With the win, the Tigers moved to 25-3. Clemson plays at Notre Dame on Friday at 4:30 p.m. to begin the series with the Irish.
