A former Tiger could be out for a long time.
Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider suffered UCL damage and will see a specialist to decide the next steps. The Braves’ release follows right elbow discomfort Friday during his start.
Strider had 88 pitches over four innings before being retired against the Diamondbacks.
Spencer Strider today underwent an MRI that revealed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He will be further evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, TX, at a date yet to be determined.

During his sophomore year at Clemson, Strider underwent Tommy John surgery and the same surgery could fullow. He is signed through 2029 with the Braves, so the franchise will be awaiting a crucial confirmation of his status.
Strider became a star in 2022, breaking the franchise record with 16 strikeouts in a nine-inning game with 16. He also became the fastest pitcher in the NL or AL to reach 200 strikeouts in a season. Strider was named an MLB All-Star in 2023.
