The pick that possibly made the most sense in the 2024 NFL Draft may also be the biggest steal of the class.
Former Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round. It’s the same team his father became an All-Pro for.
Pro Football Focus ranked the biggest Day 3 steals, and Trotter’s selection was among the list. He was the No. 155 overall pick, but PFF’s board had him at No. 96.
A legacy pick for the Eagles, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. will follow in his father’s footsteps in Philly. PFF’s No. 4-ranked linebacker in the class, Trotter earned a two-year 91.3 overall grade and a 92.1 coverage grade over the past two years as well despite some limitations in space. He has great football intelligence and instincts to mask some of those deficiencies, and his work between the tackles could allow him to see the field in year one.
With injury concerns at linebacker, Trotter could be in line for early opportunity. He has all the makings of an elite middle linebacker in the NFL. Trotter was PFF’s highest ranked linebacker in the 2023 season as well.
Trotter had 177 tackles over his final two seasons en route to a first-team All-ACC selection. He’s not the most impressive athlete, but it’s the polish of his game and the football knowledge that gives him a real chance.
On top of that, where better than Philadelphia for him to become a star. It would only be right that he becomes as legendary of an Eagles linebacker.
