Clemson baseball is poised to host a regional for a second-straight season, but the Tigers could end up with another impressive challenge at home.
D1Baseball released its latest projection, which has No. 3 Clemson hosting at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The caveat is the second seed in the region would be No. 19 Georgia.
Yes, the team that went to war with the Tigers April 23 and won 4-3 in 15 innings. I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but there was a time last year where an impressive SEC team was Clemson’s second seed in the regional.
Oddly enough, last year’s bout with Tennessee in the regional went to extras as well. That game was a 14-inning heartbreaker that took the win out of the Tigers’ sails.
This year could be very different, but the possibility of being the third best team in the country and still facing such a difficult matchup at home is there. It’s a potential reality that must be addressed.
Looking deeper into the projection, No. 1 Texas A&M would face off against Louisiana, the No. 18 team in the country. Just goes to show seeding may not save you from a difficult matchup.
With 11 games left to play, there’s still a lot to shake out but one thing is true: Clemson must be at its best in the regional at home if it hopes to reach Omaha.
