Preseason rankings from various outlets continue to roll out ahead of the 2024 college football campaign, and this national analyst is lower on Clemson coming out of the spring than a lot of others.
Fox Sports’ RJ Young recently released his post-spring top 25, and Clemson (9-4, 4-4 ACC in 2023) narrowly managed to crack his ranking.
Young has the Tigers all the way down at No. 24, just ahead of another ACC team, Miami, at No. 25.
“It’s time for the Garrett Riley-Cade Klubnik relationship to flourish,” Young wrote. “If they have success, so will Clemson in a top-heavy ACC.”
Besides Clemson and Miami, the only other ACC team in Young’s post-spring top 25 is Florida State at No. 5.
The top four teams in Young’s ranking are Ohio State, Texas, Georgia and Oregon.
Clemson will open the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Atlanta against Georgia.
After missing the four-team playoff in each of the last three seasons, Clemson is looking to make the inaugural 12-team playoff in the upcoming campaign.
The Tigers made the four-team playoff field six years in a row from 2015-20 and posted the second-most playoff appearances (six) and wins (six) in the four-team era behind only Alabama’s eight appearances and nine wins.
Clemson notched at least 10 wins in 12 straight seasons (2011-22) before going 9-4 last season. Thanks to finishing the 2023 season on a five-game winning streak, the Tigers posted their 13th consecutive nine-win season and 14th overall in Dabo Swinney’s 15 full seasons as head coach.
