Lawrence High on List of Top 25 NFL Players Under 25

This week, a national outlet highlighted the best young players in the National Football League ahead of the upcoming season.

Pro Football Focus ranked the top 25 players in the league under the age of 25 entering the 2024 campaign, and former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence is near the top of the list.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ franchise quarterback and 2021 No. 1 overall draft pick checked in at No. 3 in PFF’s ranking.

The 24-year-old Lawrence, who will turn 25 in October, is ranked behind only Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell at No. 1 and New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner at No. 2.

Last season, Lawrence battled through multiple injuries but only missed one game (the first missed game of his NFL career) in 2023, when he completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 4,016 yards and 21 touchdowns with 14 interceptions.

“Many might call Lawrence’s 2023 season a disappointment, especially considering preseason expectations,” PFF’s Zoltán Buday wrote. “However, he earned the highest overall grade of his career in 2023 and, during the first part of the season, demonstrated why the Jaguars selected him with the first-overall pick three years ago. Lawrence’s 88.1 overall grade after 13 weeks last year ranked fifth among quarterbacks.”

A Pro Bowler in 2022, Lawrence has completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 11,770 yards and 58 touchdowns with 39 interceptions in 50 career starts over the first three years of his NFL career.

As expected, the Jaguars recently exercised the fifth-year option on Lawrence, as well as fellow former Clemson star Travis Etienne. The pair of 2021 first-round draft choices are now signed through 2025.

Lawrence and the Jags have been discussing a contract extension, and Jacksonville is reportedly committed to signing him to a long-term deal.
