Which NFL team will Hunter Renfrow be suiting up for this season?
That remains to be seen, as Renfrow is still unsigned, but a couple of national outlets recently identified the best team fits for the legendary Clemson receiver.
Renfrow became a free agent after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders when the new league year began on March 13.
CBS Sports pegged the Dallas Cowboys as the best fit for Renfrow.
“A salary-cap casualty of the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, Renfrow hasn’t been a healthy and/or steady target since his 1,000-yard breakout in 2021, but he boasts a reliable catch rate when active at full speed, making him a solid, high-floor option in the slot,” CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin wrote. “After a quiet free agency, Dallas could still use receiver depth behind CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks, and a savvy route-runner like Renfrow could free up Lamb to shift outside.”
ESPN, meanwhile, says the best fit for Renfrow is the Arizona Cardinals.
“The Cardinals drafted Marvin Harrison Jr., who should emerge quickly as a volume target for quarterback Kyler Murray. Second-year wideout Michael Wilson is also slated to play on the boundary,” ESPN’s Matt Bowen wrote. “But signing Renfrow would create immediate competition at the slot receiver spot with Greg Dortch, improving this offense. At 28 years old, Renfrow has 269 career receptions, including 25 last season. He shows the route-running traits to uncover in tight quarters. The Vikings are also a team to watch here as a strong fit.”
Dubbed as the “Slot Machine,” Renfrow has posted 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns in 73 games over the first five years of his NFL career.
Although Renfrow is coming off back-to-back down seasons — he caught only 36 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns across 10 games in 2022 while being limited due to injury, then had career lows with 25 catches, 255 receiving yards and no touchdowns over 17 games in 2023 — he is just a few years removed from his Pro Bowl 2021 campaign that saw him record career highs with 103 receptions, 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.
Renfrow was drafted by the Raiders in the fifth round (149th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft following a legendary Clemson career during which he won two national titles while racking up 186 receptions for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns.
