Multiple Tigers Pegged as Top-3 Players for Their NFL Teams

Rosters across the NFL feature plenty of former Clemson standouts, and a bunch of them are building blocks for their respective franchises.

This week, Pro Football Focus highlighted the top three players for each team in the league entering the 2024 season, and a number of Clemson pros were mentioned among those players.

That includes quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne, who were named as two of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ top three players, along with linebacker Josh Allen.

“Trevor Lawrence was the highest-graded offensive player in Jacksonville last year (81.1). His deep passing was excellent, helping him rank top 10 in most categories on throws beyond 20 yards. But he also turned the ball over at a high rate,” PFF’s Trevor Sikkema wrote.

“Running back Travis Etienne was consistently impactful in the first two years of his career, notching 1,000-plus yards and 0.25 missed tackles forced per carry in each season.”

A Pro Bowler in 2022, Lawrence has completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 11,770 yards and 58 touchdowns with 39 interceptions in 50 career starts over the first three years of his NFL career.

Etienne has racked up 2,133 rushing yards, 792 receiving yards and 17 total touchdowns over the last two NFL seasons after missing his entire rookie season in 2021 with a Lisfranc injury.

Meanwhile, former Tiger defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence was expectedly pegged among the New York Giants’ top trio.

Lawrence’s fifth season as a pro in 2023 was another stellar one, as he collected his second consecutive All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. The 6-foot-4, 340-pounder was dominant over 16 games last season, when he stuffed the stat sheet while racking up 21 quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, 53 tackles (32 solo), seven tackles for loss, two passes defended and 60-plus total pressures.

“New York’s defense was much better last year, as Dexter Lawrence earned an elite 92.9 grade with an 89.5 run-defense grade and a 92.6 pass-rush grade,” Sikkema wrote.

Another former Clemson star and NFL veteran, DeAndre Hopkins, was named as one of the Tennessee Titans’ top three players.

After being released by the Arizona Cardinals last offseason, Hopkins signed a two-year deal with the Titans and concluded his first campaign in Tennessee with 75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns.

“DeAndre Hopkins’ 81.7 overall grade was the highest on the offense outside of (Derrick) Henry,” Sikkema wrote.

Last season marked the first 1,000-yard receiving season since 2020 for the 31-year-old Hopkins, a first-round pick of the Houston Texans back in 2013 who has now amassed 928 catches for 12,355 yards and 78 touchdowns in his pro career to date.
