The Clemson basketball program has picked up its first commitment for the class of 2025.
Brad Brownell and the Tigers landed a commitment Thursday from a legacy recruit, as Lake Norman High (Mooresville, N.C.) power forward/center Trent Steinour announced his verbal pledge to Clemson.
“110% committed! I want to thank Coach Brownell, Coach (Lucas) McKay and the entire coaching staff for this opportunity,” Steinour wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “I thank my family, friends and coaches for believing in me and I look forward to my future as a Clemson tiger! #Clemsongrit #AGTG”
Steinour is the grandson of Clemson legend Randy Mahaffey, a first-team All-ACC player in 1966-67 who was a big man, like Steinour is.
Mahaffey averaged 16 points and 9.7 rebounds during his career with the Tigers and went on to be an ABA All-Star in 1968. His three brothers –Donnie, Ronnie and Richie — also played for Clemson.
Clemson extended an offer to the 6-foot-10 Steinour in May 2023. He also had offers from Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Penn State, among others.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Steinour is the No. 201 overall prospect in the country, regardless of position, for the 2025 class.
