For the last couple of weeks, D1 Baseball’s NCAA Tournament projections have had Clemson and South Carolina renewing what is arguably the best rivalry in all of college baseball in the regional round.
However, in the latest update to those projections, the national publication no longer has the Gamecocks coming to the Upstate next week.
While Clemson (41-14) is still projected to be the No. 6 overall seed, D1 Baseball is now predicting that it will be another SEC opponent, the Florida Gators, that will be placed in the Clemson regional, but as the No. 3 seed.
Projected Clemson Regional
- No. 1 Clemson
- No. 2 San Diego
- No. 3 Florida
- No. Bryant
San Diego (40-13) is an intriguing No. 2 seed. The Toreros just won the West Coast Conference Tournament and will enter regional play having won 10 straight. While they currently rank No. 18 in the RPI, San Diego is just 3-7 against Quad 1 competition this season.
Florida (28-27) began the season ranked No. 2 in the country but failed to live up to those expectations, finishing with just a 13-18 record against Quad 1 teams. The Gators, who played the nation’s toughest schedule, still rank No. 30 in the RPI, but finished just 13-17 in SEC play. Florida is just 9-14 away from home this season, which includes going 0-2 in neutral site contests.
Bryant (36-19) just won its first-ever American East conference tournament over the weekend, locking up an automatic bid. The Bulldogs are No. 115 in the RPI, but will come into regional play having won four straight.
