How does Travis Etienne stack up among the NFL’s best running backs entering the upcoming season, according to this national outlet?

Pro Football Focus is rolling out an offseason series ranking all the projected starters at each position heading into the 2024 campaign, and this week, Etienne landed just outside the top 10 of PFF’s running back rankings.

The former Clemson and current Jacksonville Jaguars star checked in at No. 11 on the list.

“Etienne upped his workload in 2023 and reaped the benefits, posting another 1,000-yard rushing season and adding 11 touchdowns on the ground while earning a 77.0 grade — 17th best among running backs,” PFF’s Thomas Valentine wrote.

“His efficiency dropped from 5.1 yards per carry to 3.8, way below league average, but no running back forced more missed tackles than Etienne (64) in the regular season and his 10 rushes of 15-plus yards tied for 15th at the position.”

Etienne has been a consistent and dependable weapon for the Jaguars over the last two seasons, racking up 2,133 rushing yards, 792 receiving yards and 17 total touchdowns across the 2022-23 campaigns after missing his entire rookie season in 2021 with a Lisfranc injury.

Since he stepped foot on the field in 2022 after missing the 2021 season, Etienne has played in every game for Jacksonville over the last two years, and he started all 17 games for his team last year while surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the second straight year.

As expected, the Jags recently exercised the fifth-year option for Etienne, keeping the 2021 first-round pick under contract through the 2025 season.

The 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey is No. 1 in PFF’s running back rankings, with the top five also featuring the Ravens’ Derrick Henry, the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor, the Browns’ Nick Chubb and the Falcons’ Bijan Robinson.

Etienne’s former Clemson and current Jags teammate, Trevor Lawrence, recently came in at No. 12 in PFF’s quarterback rankings, while former Clemson star Deshaun Watson was ranked No. 23 entering his third year with the Cleveland Browns.
