Former Clemson Star Shined in First Pro Season

After starring during his career at Clemson, Hunter Tyson continued to shine in his first professional season.

Tyson balled out as a rookie with the Grand Rapids Gold — a member of the NBA G League that is affiliated with the Denver Nuggets.

The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 23.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while showing off his shooting prowess with a 40.8 percent 3-point percentage and 83.3 percent free-throw clip.

Those are impressive numbers for Tyson, who was drafted in the second round (37th overall pick) of the 2023 NBA Draft.

Tyson played in 18 regular season games with the Nuggets this season, making eight of his 20 shots from the field while collecting nine total rebounds, and he also appeared in three playoff games.

Tyson, who played five seasons at Clemson, became just the 17th player in school history to eclipse 1,000 points and 600 rebounds in a career. In his final season, he became the all-time games played leader in Clemson history.

Tyson earned first-team All-ACC honors after putting together a career year at Clemson in 2022-23, when he averaged a team-best 15.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor, 40.5 percent from 3 and 83.8 percent at the free throw line and collecting 16 double-doubles.
