Several of the top players in the 2026 recruiting class announced scholarship offers from Clemson on Saturday, as the Tigers started handing out their first ones to rising juniors.
5-star Tyler Atkinson (Grayson, Loganville, Ga) was among the first handful of players that went public first, and the linebacker said it was the culture that Dabo Swinney has created inside of the program that really stands out.
“The Tigers program has a lot of things that stand out,” Atkinson told The Clemson Insider. “If I have to say one thing, it would be the culture.”
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound blue-chip talent knows how selective Clemson is when it comes to handing out offers, noting it was a privilege to add one from the Tigers to what is now almost 50 in total.
In fact, Atkinson listed Clemson among his Top 10 schools way back in September, long before he officially had the offer. Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, LSU, Texas, Auburn, Ohio State and Tennessee also made the list.
“I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of their program,” Atkinson said. “I’m looking forward to growing the relationship and learning more about Clemson. They were in my top 10 before they offered me.”
During a stellar sophomore campaign, Atkinson was credited with 197 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. The 247 Composite ranks him No. 8 overall and as the top linebacker in the class.
Atkinson last visited Clemson back in March for Elite Junior Day, and while he has yet to firm up a timeline on a decision, he does know what it is he is looking for in a school
“Development and preparation for the next level as a player and person,” Atkinson said. “A school full of workers, good coaches, and hardworking teammates. A school with a top business program too.”
