Big VA OL Building Relationship with Luke, Ready to Camp Today

A big offensive lineman from Virginia, drawing interest from Clemson among other schools, will have the chance to show the Tigers’ staff what he can do today.

Jaishaun Offutt, a class of 2025 prospect from John Handley High School (Winchester, Va.), is set to work out for the Tigers as the Dabo Swinney Camp gets underway today.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder hopes to impress while putting his ability and skills on display.

“My quick feet and how explosive I am off the ball and change of direction, and just little technique things,” Offutt said of what he’s looking to show at the Swinney Camp.

Clemson offensive line coach Matt Luke stopped by Offutt’s school last month and has expressed interest in the rising senior recruit, who has been somewhat under the radar, but has seen his first scholarship offers roll in this year.

Offutt said he and Luke have “a good relationship going right now.”

“I like him,” Offutt said. “He seems like he knows what he’s talking about, and I know that he’s had a lot of success coaching the offensive line. That’s what I want to play, so I think he’s probably a great coach to take advice from and learn from.”

“He saw my film for the first time and he said that he enjoyed it, that he likes how I play and that he thinks I could be a great fit,” Offutt added, “but I’ve just got to come down and see the campus and meet Coach Swinney and everybody else.”

Today will mark the first visit to Clemson for Offutt.

“I’m excited because it’s a very good school from football wise and academic wise,” he said. “So I think me seeing a school like Clemson for the first time will be an eye opener for me and show me what schools have to offer.”

After Clemson, Offutt is scheduled to camp at Maryland (June 9), Virginia (June 18) and James Madison (June 23).

FCS schools Towson, Elon and Georgetown gave Offutt his first offers in February before New Hampshire, William & Mary, Morgan State, Maine, Bucknell, Delaware State, Navy and Air Force all followed with offers this spring. He’s also attracting attention from other schools like Virginia, the program that Offutt said he is feeling the most interest from at this point in the process.

As for Clemson, Offutt would love to earn an offer from the Tigers and have the chance to play in Tiger Town.

“I feel like it’s a great place to be football wise,” he said. “There’s a lot of success going on there and have been in the (past) years, and there’s a lot of great coaches there that have produced great talent that have come out of there or wherever they have been. So, I just feel like as a coaching staff and the school wise, I feel like it has everything that any football player would look for, and there’s an opportunity there that not most players would turn down.”
