Injury Update on Will Taylor

CLEMSON — We wanted to pass along an injury update on Will Taylor.

We can tell you the star outfielder was out shagging balls with the other outfielders during Clemson’s warmup for the Super Regional.

Taylor was catching with his glove on his right hand, then taking the glove off and throwing with his right arm.

Taylor injured his left wrist (glove hand) while making a diving attempt at a foul ball against NC State on April 14. The junior broke a small bone in his left wrist and had a procedure done to fix it.

Clemson head coach Erik Bakich met with the media on Friday afternoon and said Taylor is not on the Super Regional roster.

Bakich said “unless he is like Jim Abbott and can take off the glove after he catches it and then throws it, then no, he will not be playing this weekend.”

At the time of his injury, Taylor was starting to get back to the form that made him a highly regarded MLB prospect coming into the season. He had seven home runs and 19 RBIs before the injury.

The sixth-seeded Tigers (44-14) will take on the Florida Gators (32-28) in the opening game of the Clemson Super Regional at 2 p.m. Saturday at Doug Kingmore Stadium.
