CLEMSON — Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan returned to Clemson for the first time since he left to coach the Gators following the Tigers’ run to Omaha in 2006.
O’Sullivan was Jack Leggett’s pitching coach and later associate head coach during his eight seasons in Clemson. During that time, he helped guide the Tigers to three College World Series appearances, while also coaching 29 pitchers who were drafted into the Major Leagues.
“It is a bit surreal to be back in Clemson after 17 years of not being back,” O’Sullivan said Friday, as the Gators get set to play No. 6 overall seed Clemson in the Clemson Super Regional on Saturday. “We are excited. We know we are playing a really good team in Clemson and we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
O’Sullivan has taken Florida to eight CWS in his 18 seasons as the head coach in Gainesville, Fla. He has won one national championship and played in the championship series of the CWS two other times.
