Max Buchanan has long been one of Clemson’s top offensive line targets in the 2025 class.

The 4-star talent (Seminole, Sanford, Fl) has visited multiple times in the past year, including the win over Notre Dame last season, and was one of a handful of offensive linemen on hand for the Tigers’ big official visit weekend the first weekend in June. The family-like feel inside of the program was one of the things that stood out.

“Definitely how close the guys were and how well I got along with them,” Buchanan told The Clemson Insider. “It was fun being around them the majority of the day. All the other kids and other recruits that they’ve got going on. I meshed well with them.”

Spending the weekend in town gave Buchanan one final chance to experience the culture inside Dabo Swinney’s program before he renders a decision, which he said will probably come in early August.

“The culture is amazing,” Buchanan said. “Everyone around Clemson supports it. And it definitely shows when there’s a full Clemson. It’s a college town.”

Since the hiring of Matt Luke, Buchanan has spent the past few months getting to know one of Clemson’s newest assistants and the weekend in town gave the two plenty of face time.

“It is really good,” Buchanan said of the relationship. “We joke around a lot, but he means business, and I know it. I know he can even gave me to where I want to be in the future, and he’s proven it time and time again. He consistently is putting guys in the league, and he’s always recruiting the top guys. I’m just very thankful to be part of it.”

Buchanan took spring officials to Ole Miss and UCF. Clemson was his first June official and last weekend his was at Florida State. This weekend he heads to Miami before finishing the slate with an official to Penn State.

And as he goes through this last rounds of visits, Buchanan is looking for a school that can develop him not only as a player, but also as a man. He is also looking for a program that is going to win.

“Definitely looking for any community that is welcoming and opening,” Buchanan said. “Looking for a group of guys that’s on the team that get along very well and in the locker room, and just in general. Looking for a coach that I know can help me be the best I can be, and develop me as a man and also a football player. I’m also looking for a team that’s going to be good. I want to go to a team that’s going to win.”

As for where Clemson stands, Buchanan said he has always been high on the Tigers, and his last visit did nothing but reinforce that belief.

“Definitely high on my board. They always have been,” Buchanan said. “It just made me like Clemson even more, to be honest.”
