New ‘25 Mock Draft Has Two Clemson Defenders as First-Round Picks

A new 2025 NFL mock draft that was published this weekend has a couple of Clemson defenders coming off the board in the first round.

The mock draft comes from Pro Football Network’s Oliver Hodgkinson, who currently sees two Tigers as first-round picks in next year’s draft – linebacker Barrett Carter and defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart.

Hodgkinson projected the Philadelphia Eagles to take Carter with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2025 draft – one year after the Eagles selected another Clemson linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., in the fifth round (No. 155 overall pick) of this year’s draft.

“Although the Philadelphia Eagles drafted a linebacker out of Clemson just six weeks ago, the position looms prominently on their projected needs list ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft,” Hodgkinson wrote.

“Barrett Carter gives them an enforcer in all phases who heads into the 2024 college campaign with 151 tackles, 21 for loss, nine sacks, three interceptions, and 14 PBUs as evidence of his multi-faced skill set.”

As a second-team All-ACC selection in 2023, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound Carter ranked second on the team in tackles (67) and tallied 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, six pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery over 12 games (all starts).

Meanwhile, Hodgkinson’s 2025 mock draft has Capehart being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 32nd and final pick of the first round.

“Clemson has been a potent producer of defensive line talent for what seems like forever now. One player who could join the ranks of former Tigers in the NFL is DeMonte Capehart, who is set for a breakout season,” Hodgkinson wrote.

“NFL scouts are already high on the 6’5″, 320-pound juggernaut due to his off-snap explosion, all-encompassing power, and eyes-on-the-ball football intelligence.”

Capehart came on down the stretch last season as one of Clemson’s most physical and disruptive interior linemen. He was credited with nine quarterback pressures, the second-most among the Tigers’ interior linemen, and was credited with 16 tackles (5.0 for loss), a sack, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.

A former top-50 national recruit, Capehart has recorded 32 tackles (9.0 for loss), 2.0 sacks, a pass breakup and a forced fumble during his 34 career games.

The 2025 NFL Draft will take place in Green Bay next April.
