Former Clemson Standout Gets New Head Coaching Job

A former Clemson standout has landed a new head coaching job.

On Wednesday afternoon, Russell Triplett was announced as The Citadel’s new head baseball coach.

Triplett spent the last 14 seasons as Newberry’s head coach, compiling a 418-278-1 overall record.

Triplett played at Clemson from 2000-04, when he was a four-time letterman and two-time second-team All-ACC selection.

The West Columbia, S.C., native played in 222 total games for the Tigers and posted a .312 batting average for his career. He was a two-time team captain and helped Clemson to four NCAA Regional appearances, two NCAA Super Regionals and a College World Series appearance in 2002.

Triplett was also a volunteer assistant on the Clemson coaching staff prior to serving as the head assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at USC Upstate from 2008-2010.

During his tenure at Newberry, Triplett was a three-time South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year.
