The Clemson softball program is set to add this standout Big South transfer.
On Thursday, former Winthrop pitcher Reese Basinger announced her transfer commitment to the Tigers.
“Switched it up for year 4,” Basinger wrote in an Instagram post. “Super excited to announce I will be continuing my last year of softball at Clemson University. Go tigers!! ”
A 5-foot-11 righthander from Evans, Ga., Basinger is entering her fourth collegiate season after earning first-team All-Big South honors in each of the last two seasons.
In three seasons at Winthrop, Basinger posted a 2.16 ERA and 431 strikeouts with just 388 hits allowed in 461.0 innings pitched across 87 appearances. She started 68 games and had 45 complete games with nine shutouts.
Basinger is coming off a strong junior campaign in 2024, when she posted a 2.01 ERA and 89 strikeouts with 30 walks in 125.2 innings over 24 games (19 starts). She logged 11 complete games and posted a pair of shutouts.
As a freshman in 2022, Basinger was voted to the Big South Conference All-Freshman Team after leading her team’s pitching staff in ERA (2.49), games started (24), complete games (15), shutouts (4), innings pitched (154.1) and strikeouts (130).
Prior to joining Winthrop, Basinger was the 2021 Softball 3-6A Player of the Year and the 2021-22 USA Today Augusta Area High School Player of the Year.
