2026 Pass Catcher Says ‘No Words Can Describe’ Being Clemson’s First TE Offer

Dozens and dozens of tight end prospects rolled through Clemson for Dabo Swinney’s high school camp the first week in June and among them the Tigers found their top target at the position in the 2026 recruiting class.

While the recruiting services list Tayveon Wilson (Huntington, WV) as a wide receiver, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect worked out at tight end in front of Kyle Richardson while camping at Clemson for the very first time.

“I liked the camp. It was set up different than any other camps,” Wilson told The Clemson Insider. “We didn’t do the 40-yard dash or anything. Not any of that. We just got to start to the action. It it was probably my favorite camp just because of that.”

Wilson is a three-sport standout at his high school, playing both basketball and baseball, as well as football. While he has mostly played receiver to this point in his career, he has moved inside to tight end at times.

Despite the limited experience, Richardson was so impressed with Wilson during his morning workout, he had him skip the afternoon session so he could tour the facilities.

“Right after the camp, I went to his office and he said I did great and that I did my job,” Wilson said. “And he actually told me, instead of participating in the second half of camp, to take a tour, because he already seen enough of me.”

While the offer did not come immediately, it did eventually come, and Wilson said it was something he was not expecting going into camp.

“He said he’d give me a call in a couple weeks after he’d seen everybody else at camp,” Wilson said. “Then he called me on June 18, I think, and we talked on the phone for about half an hour, and then he offered me.”

“I was excited, I was pumped up. No words can describe it.”

Wilson also camped at Notre Dame and Ohio State, as well as doing a 7v7 camp at West Virginia. Penn State and UCF are two of the schools he has been hearing from the most since the middle of June when coaches could start contacting players directly. However, it is Clemson that Wilson said he has been hearing from the most.

“Just all the love coach Richardson has been showing me,” he said.

His mom and sister attended the camp with him and with the mother being a school teacher, academics will play a crucial role in his recruitment. However, he is still extremely early in the process and isn’t looking to make any decision before next summer.

“Academics and a coaching staff that is willing to push me,” Wilson said when asked what he is looking for in a school.
