Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Talks Nickname Fans Should Call Him

There’s a familiar nickname that Jeremiah Trotter Jr. certainly wouldn’t mind being called by Philadelphia Eagles fans.

That nickname is “Axe Man Jr.” – a nod to his father, Jeremiah Trotter Sr., the legendary Eagles Hall of Fame linebacker known as the “Axe Man.”

Trotter Jr. talked about that when he joined the 94WIP Morning Show this week.

“For me, it’s whatever people feel comfortable with,” Trotter Jr. said. “I always say you can call me ‘Axe Man Jr.’ if you want to. I want to give him his respect because he led the way. I really just started doing the (Axe Man) celebration to give thanks to him.

“When I did it…against Syracuse my sophomore year, that was more to give him his props and say thank you to him, but everybody loved it. He loved it, and he’s like shoot, ‘Everybody loves it and I like it, so you gotta keep it going at that point.'”

Of course, Trotter Jr. is entering his rookie year with the Eagles after they selected him in the fifth round (No. 155 overall) of this year’s NFL Draft.

The former Clemson star linebacker finished his Tiger career (2021-23) with 202 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 13 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and four interceptions, including two he returned for touchdowns.

Now, “Axe Man Jr.” is getting the special opportunity to carry on his father’s legacy in Philly.

A third-round draft pick of the Eagles in 1998, Trotter Sr. spent eight seasons with the Eagles, earning four Pro Bowl nods and making a Super Bowl appearance with the team in the 2004 season.

Trotter Jr. was given the No. 54 with the Eagles. It’s the same number he wore during his prep career at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, then again as a multi-time All-American at Clemson – and also the same number his father sported across all three of his stints with the Eagles.
