Georgia Loss a First for Klubnik

CLEMSON- Cade Klubnik is not accustomed to losing. More than that, he’s not used to being on the wrong end of a blowout loss.

Before he got to Clemson, Klubnik was unbeaten as a starting quarterback at the high school level. Experiencing losses was new for the signal caller a season ago and now learning how to deal with a one-sided defeat is another first for the junior.

“Obviously I’m pissed off. I’m pissed off to to lose a game like that,” Klubnik said on Tuesday. “I’ve never lost a game like that in my life. That’s just frustrating. I have never lost a game like that in my life.”

While Klubnik did hit on 62% of his throws in the defeat, he was limited to just 142 yards and failed to lead the Tigers to a touchdown against the top-rated Bulldogs.

However, Klubnik feels he did a lot of good things in Atlanta, and is focused on the positives. He is determined to not try and do too much and is looking to just manage the games as a quarterback.

“One of our coaches kind of gave me a good tip before the season,” Klubnik said. “He came in and asked me, ‘how many games do you have to win this year?’ And I didn’t really know how to answer. He said, ‘you don’t have to win any of them. All you have to do is manage them.’ So that’s kind of been my goal. And that was my goal week one. It’s gonna be my goal every week is just managing the game the best I can.”

This weekend No. 25 Clemson will welcome App State to town (8pm/ACCN). The Mountaineers have beaten a Top 25 team in each of the past three seasons and Klubnik knows that talking about improvements is all well and good but it doesn’t mean much if that improvement doesn’t lead to wins.

“Obviously, there’s things I need to get better at,” Klubnik added. “But overall, I feel like I’ve made a big jump from last year. But it doesn’t really matter if I don’t go do it again this week. So just trying to go be the best I can and go be even better than I was last week. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter how good I do, or any individual does, if we don’t come out with the win.”
