Coming off the season-opening loss to Georgia last Saturday, will Clemson run down the hill and take care of business tonight against Appalachian State?
ESPN sports betting analyst “Stanford Steve” Coughlin was asked that question this morning on College GameDay.
“I think they’re going to take care of business with the way they go about things,” Coughlin said. “I loved what I saw from their defensive side of the ball last week against Georgia, they just couldn’t keep going in the second half. I still think they’re working on things with the freshmen receivers in the pass game.”
The 25th-ranked Tigers (0-1) are a 16.5-point favorite over the Mountaineers (1-0), the Sun Belt favorites who have a chance to earn the Group of Five spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
The over/under point total is 52.5, and Coughlin is taking the under on that number.
“I think it’s going to be a tough game,” he said. “I’m going to go under the total 52.5 between these two teams. I picked App State to be the G5 playoff team.”
“They can hang around. Definitely,” Kirk Herbstreit added. “They always do, no matter who they play in the Power (Conferences).”
Tonight’s game at Death Valley is set to kick off at 8 p.m. and will be televised on ACC Network.
