Is this the deepest position room Mike Reed has had?

Reed, Clemson’s cornerbacks coach, was asked that question Tuesday when he met with the media.

Reed paused, pondering that question, before giving a response.

“It’s crazy that you ask that. I say that because when I used to coach all 20 of them, that was deep,” Reed said, laughing.

Reed was referring to his years (2013–2021) coaching all of Clemson’s defensive backs, and not just the cornerbacks.

But since the 2022 season, when Reed was promoted to special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach, he feels this year’s crop of corners is the deepest he’s had.

“Now that I’m coaching I guess nine of them, I would say yes from that aspect – from just a sheer cornerback standpoint, I would say yes, guys that I can put in a game and feel comfortable going and doing the job,” Reed said.

Clemson’s cornerback room features standouts like junior Jeadyn Lukus and sophomores Avieon Terrell and Shelton Lewis, while Reed and the Tigers have a lot of promising young talent at the position with players such as true freshmen Ashton Hampton, Corian Gipson and Tavoy Feagin, and redshirt freshman Branden Strozier.
