CLEMSON – Coming off its win over Sanford, No. 15 Clemson travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for the third conference game of the season.

Safety R.J. Mickens spoke with the media earlier this week to share his thoughts on his and the team’s performance to this point in the season and more.

–Mickens was asked his overall assessment from the previous game and said, “I felt like I played well…Coach [Mickey] Conn and Coach Wes [Goodwin] did a really good job preparing us throughout the week, and we had a really good game plan.”

–While the Tigers remain undefeated in conference play, Mickens said, “We’ve done some really good things and we’ve done some bad things too.” The improvements that he thinks need to be made to continue that streak is “to be more consistent, discipline, and playing full four quarters.”

–Mickens has lots of confidence in the Clemson offense and reiterated that he has seen it since the spring and fall camp. He said to see them come to life has “been awesome…it was only a matter of time…It’s really encouraging to see some of the things that we’re seeing right now.”

–The graduate has high praise for freshman linebacker Sammy Brown and what he has shown so far this season. Mickens said he is “really proud” of Brown and that he is a “great player” and “being a freshman it’s not easy to be a linebacker, especially here in our defense. He’s really handling it really well and it shows up on Saturdays.”

-Though the Tigers will not face former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who is out with a finger injury on his throwing hand, Mickens said he still stays in touch with Uiagalelei and they have a “great relationship outside of football.” He said when he learned that Uiagalelei suffered an injured he said, “I really hate that for him…praying for him and hoping for a speedy recovery.”
