Will we see Clemson’s offense line up in the Jumbo package at some point this season? And if so, which defensive linemen will be a part of it?
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was coy about that, when a question about Jumbo package personnel was posed during his media availability following Wednesday’s practice.
“That is intellectual property I cannot share at this time,” Swinney said jokingly.
Of course, the Jumbo package is an exciting formation that fans like, and players like, too –particularly the defensive linemen who get the opportunity to play on offense and help block for their teammates, or even better, get handed the ball themselves and have the chance to go score.
Swinney was asked which defensive tackles are working in the Jumbo package in 2024, now that former Clemson defensive tackles Tyler Davis and Ruke Orhorhoro – who used to be in the Jumbo package – are no longer on the team and now in the NFL.
“You’ll just have to wait and see,” Swinney said with a smile.
It remains to be seen when or if Swinney’s team will bring out the Jumbo package this year, but the next chance for that to possibly happen comes in Clemson’s next game on Saturday, when the 10th-ranked Tigers take on Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. (12 p.m., ESPN).
“Who says we have the Jumbo package? Who says that, ya know. I don’t know. But you never know. We may, and you’ll see once we run them out there,” Swinney said, smiling.
